At 2346 Weston Road, the Open Door Affordable Rental Housing Program has been an advocate for its realization. In 2016 the Toronto City Council approved the Open Door Affordable Housing Program to accelerate affordable housing construction by providing financial contributions, fast-tracking planning approvals, and activating surplus public land. This program is designed to assist the city in achieving its Housing TO 2020-2030 Action Plan, which sets targets to approve 40,000 new affordable rental homes and 4,000 new affordable ownership homes by 2030.

The 2346 Weston Road development will bring a 15-storey building to the community, adding 157 affordable housing units. Encompassing 126 novel rental units within its 15-storey structure, the project is meticulously designed to cater to the housing needs of older adults and seniors aged 59 and above. Partial funding for this initiative is secured through the city’s affordability programs.
