Weston and Mount Dennis

Planning & Consultations

Many development projects are occurring in Weston and Mount Dennis.

It is important for residents to stay involved to bring the neighbourhood assets and needs to the forefront.

The more residents know, the more they can advocate to keep the integrity of the neighbourhoods. With this knowledge, residents can work with the changes to support initiatives and bring Community Benefits.

The redevelopment of the Weston and Mount Dennis areas will be transforming in the coming years. This redevelopment is closely tied to the introduction of the TTC's Eglinton LRT, which includes the Mount Dennis station. With improved transit accessibility, these neighbourhoods are poised to experience growth and attract new investments.

On March 10, 2016, the City Council initiated a planning study for the Mount Dennis area. This study aimed to determine how public investment in transit infrastructure would guide future development and leverage community improvements.

Beginning in January 2020, the study involved extensive consultation with key stakeholders, such as:

  • Indigenous communities

  • Residents

  • Workers

  • Business owners

  • Landowners

The resulting December 2021 Final Report, Picture Mount Dennis Planning Framework, provides a roadmap for the future redevelopment process.

This report seeks to:

Preserve the character of the community, while also accommodating new growth and development

Focus on leveraging new investments to benefit current and future residents

Promote reconciliation with Indigenous communities

Addressing potential issues of displacement

As part of the redevelopment plans, considerations have been made for various aspects of the community, including:

  • Land use and urban design

  • Public spaces and transportation

  • Cultural heritage

  • Housing

  • Economic development

  • Community services and facilities

  • Environmental infrastructure needs

Similarly, the Weston area is expected to see improvements and development spurred by the transit enhancements. The increased connectivity provided by the Eglinton LRT will likely attract new businesses, residents, and public services to the area.

Overall, the redevelopment of Weston and Mount Dennis holds the potential to create vibrant, transit-oriented communities.

We hope these new developments will offer a mix of residential, commercial, and recreational spaces, catering to the needs and aspirations of its diverse residents. As the process unfolds, community engagement and collaboration will play a vital role in shaping these neighbourhoods into thriving and inclusive places to live, work, and play.
